The village that keeps night hours
Ikaria's best-known mountain village sits high above the north coast among pine and oak. Its central square comes alive after dark, when shops, bakeries and kafeneia open their doors and locals gather until the small hours.
Fishing village above golden beaches
A cluster of white houses tumbling down to a small harbour. Long sandy beaches at Livadi and Messakti sit just east of the village, so Armenistis is the island's liveliest summer base.
Ancient temple, river beach and sunsets
Where the Chalaris river meets the sea, Nas has a sheltered cove, the ruins of a Temple of Artemis Tauropolos and a handful of tavernas built for watching the sun go down.
Harbour capital under Mt Atheras
The island's capital and main ferry port has a seafront of cafés, the Icarus monument on the breakwater and the archaeological museum. Therma and its hot springs are just over the hill.
Neoclassical port on the north coast
Ikaria's second port has handsome neoclassical houses around its harbour, waterside cafés and quick access to the beaches and ancient sites of Kampos.
Spa village of healing waters
A small seaside village built around radon-rich hot springs. Bathe in the municipal spa or the natural sea-cave pool, then eat fresh fish on the waterfront.
