The harbour of Agios Kirykos, where the Piraeus ferry docks

Ikaria · Getting there

How to get to Ikaria

Ikaria has no direct flights from abroad, which is part of why it has kept its rhythm. Most people fly to Athens and either take a short hop on a small plane or the ferry from Piraeus. Another way is to fly to Samos and take a boat across.

When you land

Good to know on arrival

  • Rent before you land

Buses are rare and the island is steep. Book a car or scooter ahead in summer, because they run out.

  • Pick the right port

Agios Kirykos is closest to Therma and the south. Evdilos is closest to Armenistis, Nas and the north.

  • Watch the wind

In August the meltemi can delay or cancel ferries. Leave a spare day before an international flight.

Times and frequencies are typical for the summer season and change every year. Check the current timetable before you book.
